I’m standing at a trailhead in Sedona looking at the moon. To my back, the sun is setting after a day full of thunder and lightning. I have a lump in my throat and tears in my eyes. A dream I have held in my heart for twentyfive years has come true. I have written a book: the one you’re holding.

It amazes me how this process transpired. Someone found me to write a book of moonlight meditations. It couldn’t be more perfect. Four years ago, I started setting intentions and practicing gratitude under a big full moon in Bali. It changed my life. I learned to trust the universe with my intentions and be immensely grateful for however they turned out.

My goal with this book is for the reader to find peace in these passages before falling asleep—to offer gratitude every night. The universe is abundant and full of goodness. Create a moment each day to say thank-you for the blessings that flow through to each one of us.

This evening, I am grateful to be in a dreamy place where I could complete this book and look up at the sky at a near full moon, offering my appreciation for this gift.

GONE TOO SOON ARE the ones we love. Into the ether their souls ascend as we stay here to feel the loss. The pang of loss resides in our hearts, in our bellies, even on our skin. Some days are easier than others, but the memories of our loved ones remain. Tonight, if a certain memory seems to linger, acknowledge its presence, notice where it affects you, and appreciate the person’s presence in your life. Allow the memory to cultivate not sorrow, but gratitude.

AN ARTIST’S HANDS MOLD a pot from a lump of clay. With care, each turn of the wheel gets the clay closer to the potter’s vision. Afterwards, the artist puts the pot into a kiln. Through shaping and fire, a beautiful creation emerges from a lump of clay. Sometimes we need fire to enhance our beauty. A TRANQUIL SEA reflects like glass. In the stillness of the sea, the sky can see its reflection on the water and admire its own vast beauty. There is nothing disrupting the placid scene as serenity takes over. When the sky is turbulent with storms, the sea reflects the energy with the tossing and turning of its waves. Similarly, we reflect the energy we emit. Give off the energy you want to receive and abide in.
