Fun Personal Development While Learning About Your Friends, Family, Coworkers, Classmates.
Better Me is a cooperative new approach to relationships and personal development. Using the principles of positive psychology, the game challenges players to take real world action to improve themselves and their life. It also strengthens relationships by helping people connect in a meaningful way.
The game creates amazing conversation, allowing players to quickly learn about themselves and their fellow players. And all in an encouraging and fun atmosphere, with no pressure or judgment. When has a game asked you to share a past accomplishment that you’re proud of, or a challenge that taught you a valuable lesson? When has a game challenged you to write a thank you letter to a loved one, or give a flower to a stranger?
Designed for 2-8 players.
6 CATEGORIES OF GROWTH
Better Me is based around conversation, connection and sharing.
Each turn, players will draw one card from the category that they landed on. Each category invites the player to grow in a different area. Some cards ask players to share fond or important memories, prompting players to share about past victories and lessons learned. Some cards are action based, requiring you to do something right now, either alone or as a group. Others are thought exercises that let the players open their minds and consider new perspectives. Action cards ask the player to commit to real world action and find accountability partners in the group, to stay in touch after the game and ensure you follow through.
Sometimes only the player that drew the card can take the action and score points, but often all players are invited to join in if they wish. This means all players have the option to share (or not) on all topics and activities that come up. The categories are:
MIND: The MIND category focuses on thought exercises and cognitive abilities. The cards will challenge players to think, consider new perspectives and challenge what they may consider to be “normal” or “obvious”.
HEART: The HEART category is place to share about feelings, love and connection. Usually the cards will be open invitations to share something with the group, or an inspiring question to ponder together. This self-reflection is valuable for the player who is sharing, and an interesting chance for the other players to understand what is important to them.
TANGIBLES: The TANGIBLES category deals with real world events, physical sensations and things you can directly experience in the world. It keeps us grounded and focused on things that are real.
PEOPLE: Cards in the PEOPLE category are about the players relationships with the people in their life – friends, family, coworkers and intimate relationships. They may also deal with issues surrounding strangers, celebrities and people we don’t know. Many cards in this set will encourage the player to do something to improve their relationships.
BODY: The BODY category will encourage the player to reflect on their physical health, including diet, nutrition, exercise, sleep and more. Most cards will inspire the player to commit to an action to improve their health in some way.
FALL FORWARD: FALL FORWARD is a time to reflect on your life lessons, or what’s important to you. When drawing this card, you will miss a turn as you “reflect”, but there will also be various benefits of taking time off, to help teach the importance of taking time for yourself and overcoming setbacks in real life.
Hosting a Better Me game is a great way to meet people and learn about your friends, family or coworkers in a meaningful way.
Players learn important things about each other, even if they have known each other for decades. Better Me creates priceless memories of bonding and deep understanding.
It’s a fantastic way to get to know new people quickly, and deepen the relationship with those you already know.
Better Me is used around the world at schools, universities, leadership development and mentorship programs as well as for team building and group therapy programs.
It is a unique tool for creating meaningful conversation and creating accountability, encouragement and teamwork, which is especially useful for young people and bringing colleages closer together.
Better Me harnesses the power of accountability.
Any player committing to an action gets an accountability partner to help them follow through. Both players write down the action, and the target completion date on their game sheet. These accountability partnerships are key to ensuring that players take action and grow. It’s a game-ified mastermind/support group! A perfect game for encouraging teamwork and leadership development.
HOW IT WORKS
Players move around the game board and draw cards that prompt positive action and discussion.
Players race to become fulfilled in each of their five life areas; Heart, Mind, Body, People and Tangibles.
Points are earned by following instructions on the cards. That may be giving a sincere compliment, sharing a story of an important lesson learned, committing to empowering action outside the game or just taking a moment to sit and reflect on a fond memory.
Despite having a winner, the game is non-competitive. Players are welcome to pass on any cards they don’t wish to take action on or if they just don’t feel like sharing.
When a player draws a card, other players are welcome to also share their story or take part in the action on the card – that means all players get to feel involved in each positive event that takes place during the game.
