From the Publisher
Be Made New This Advent
Of all the seasons of the year, Advent offers us perhaps the clearest sense of adventure and journey. It is a season for resetting our horizon, reframing our movement toward fullness in Christ. And even though Advent is brief, it is filled with spiritual riches. Yet, because Advent falls during a busy time of year, we often rush over or even miss the treasures God places before us in the Church. Adore will help you lift these gifts up and hold them out to you in a way that deepens your entry into the greatest of mysteries.
The Adore Advent journal’s combination of daily meditations by Fr. John Burns, questions for reflection, journaling space, prayers, and beautiful original art created by Valerie Delgado is specially designed to draw you into a deeper, richer experience of Advent, preparing you not only to celebrate Jesus’ long-ago arrival in Bethlehem but also to receive and adore him as he continues to arrive today, in the Eucharist and in our hearts.
Journey with Mary and Joseph towards the Birth of Our Savior
Week 1: Watchfulness
As we begin our journey towards the anticipated time of Christmas, we are encouraged to become vigilant of how God is working in our lives and return in pursuit of what truly matters.
Week 2: Preparation
This seasons asks us to prepare the interior for Christ’s coming. Just as John the Baptist said, “prepare the way of the Lord”, Fr. John Burns encourages us to prepare our hearts to watch and be ready to run towards Christ.
Week 3: Nearness
The announcement of a guest being near can create a feeling of hopeful joy. In this time of anticipation, we are invited to rejoice in the preparation and be mindful to orient our hearts and minds towards Christ.
Week 4: Emmanuel
By Christmas, our seeking for “something more” is found neither in displays of power nor in the stars above nor the sea below. Rather, we find the answer to our longings resting in a manger, out in back behind a full inn. What a lesson about the search for God!
